Nikki Wiedemann

My journey in tourism began in 2006 with the Red Carnation Hotels, and since then I have worked with a number of high-end lodges, including Pezula Hotel & Spa, Karkloof Spa and Constance Hotels (Indian Ocean Islands).

As a marketing purist in the early days of my career, I worked with award-winning advertising agency Hunt Lascaris in their media and sponsorship divisions on various local and international sporting events and incentive campaigns with newly established cellular companies such as MTN and Cell C.

In the years to come, my career experience diversified with exposure to several high-profile NGO projects.

More recently, my involvement in the tourism in Mozambique has played to my strength of bringing people and properties together to facilitate a unified private sector voice.

Having worked with White Pearl Resorts for two years, I found my passion for Mozambique and collaborated with other properties to establish ‘The Best of Mozambique’ in January 2019, which ran for a period of two years.

My experience has allowed me to engage with several accommodation properties across the country, as well as with companies in both the MICE and leisure tourism sector.

The formative years of my career were spent in finance, consulting, and strategy development. Nedbank Business Banking had identified the need for niche industry specialisations during 2009, and I was afforded the opportunity to head up the development of their Tourism Strategy. The focus was to develop financial products suitable to the specific financial needs of the sector. This required that the entire value-chain of the sector be understood.

As Managing Director of White Pearl Resorts in Mozambique for 8 years, I gained invaluable exposure to domestic and international tourism trade requirements into Southern Africa, specifically Mozambique.

My MBA from the University of Pretoria (Gordon Institute of Business Science), along with 15 years of senior management experience (8 of which have been at an executive level), was put to good use during my tenure at White Pearl Resorts, which at the time (2013) was a fledgling business and required significant business rigour for it to track into the future as a viable and stable business entity.

Some of the key highlights of my career:

Speaking on Mozambique’s tourism strategic development map at the World Travel Market of 2019

Winning the Country and Regional (SADC) Award for Africa’s Most Influential Women Business – Tourism Sector by CEO Global 2015/16

Establishing a Kruger to Coast flight and fostering collaborative engagement on easier access into Mozambique

The creation and advocacy for the corporate social initiative of Growing Pearls, an empowerment and development initiative for the local community, its school and eco-conscious projects
